ABC Cooking Passport Lesson: Luxury French Meal (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) Review

We recently went to Kuala Lumpur for a quick long weekend getaway through Firefly. You can read that on the previous blog post but since we were already in Kuala Lumpur, we decided to try an ABC Cooking Passport class. The class is free for members and we were able to take one class in each country that ABC Cooking has a location in.



The class we chose is ABC Cooking Passport Lesson: Luxury French Meal (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), offered by ABC Cooking Studio Malaysia which includes Cherry and Berry Clafoutis, Ham and Cream Cheese Galette, and Pork with Grilled Vegetable (Chicken in Malaysia so that it is a halal dish). In this blog post, we'll look more closely at how these foods are prepared step-by-step and at their mouthwatering flavor.


Step 1: Preparing the Cherry and Berry Clafoutis


We started off the class with the Cherry and Berry Clafoutis. To make the clafoutis batter, whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, and flour until thoroughly combined. After that, a baking dish is filled with the batter, and fresh cherries and berries are added on top. The clafoutis is baked till puffed and golden brown.


Step 2: Making the Ham and Cream Cheese Galette


The Ham and Cream Cheese Galette is the second dish in this class. Flour, butter, and water are combined until a doughy consistency is achieved to make the galette dough. After the dough has been flattened out on the pan, the galette is cooked till crisp and golden. After that, cream cheese, ham, and herbs are added to the top.

Step 3: Grilling the vegetables and the chicken


Chicken with Grilled Vegetables is the last course in this session. We first prepared the vegetables for grilling by cutting them into bite-sized pieces. Both of us did not really know how to cut using a knife as we did not really cook. The instructor patiently taught us how to slice and not chop the vegetables. We lightly seasoned the vegetables afterwards.


Next, we butterfly cut the chicken to have a larger exposed surface area to cook it evenly, and removed certain fatty areas of the chicken thigh to make the cooking process easier. Salt and pepper are used to season the chicken, which is then fried in a hot skillet until browned on all sides. Then it is moved into the oven to finish cooking to the desired doneness.


The vegetables are roasted in the background with the chicken until soft and slightly browned. The sliced chicken is then placed on top of the grilled veggies on a serving dish. A balsamic glaze drizzle completes the dish.

Juicy chicken and soft, fragrant vegetables make up the delectable Chicken with Grilled Vegetables. The dish is perfectly complemented by the sweet and sour flavor that the balsamic glaze offers.


The Galette with Ham and Cream Cheese is a delicious and filling dish. The savory and creamy ham and cream cheese filling is the ideal complement to the flaky galette bread.


Any occasion would be ideal for the sweet and luscious Cherry and Berry Clafoutis. Fresh cherries and berries lend a burst of sweetness to the light and fluffy clafoutis dough.
